This region is made up of six prefectures, Aomori, Akita and Iwate in the north, Miyagi, Yamagata and Fukushima in the south. The region is famous for its well preserved local culture which can be seen especially during the summer time when the four big Tohoku Festivals take place. The region is also well known for its fresh seafood and having the country’s finest rice, sake and apples.

Main attractions of the Setouchi region include the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island, Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Atomic Dome) museum, the picturesque town of Kurashiki and one of the most ancient and important Shinto shrines in Japan, the Izumo-taisha, which are all part of this very unique region.

Okinawa, the southernmost part of Japan, is the group of 160 subtropical islands known as the Ryukyu Islands. The seas surrounding Okinawa’s islands are considered among the world’s most beautiful with coral reefs and abundant marine wildlife making snorkeling and scuba diving some of the top attractions. Okinawa is well known for its unique culture and cuisine which is quite different to that of mainland Japan. There are also many preserved sites and theme parks where it’s possible to step back in time.
