Morning Class – Bento Box Style
Morning Bento Class is a great way to learn about typical Japanese dishes. In addition, you will learn the cultural background of the well known Japanese ‘Bento’. During the 2.5-3 hour class, you will be shown demonstrations and explained the art to making these beautiful dishes then you will try it.
Afternoon Class – Kappo Style
Kappo – fine Japanese cuisine over the counter – is a popular style of eating-out for local Japanese. Typically, Kappo are small dishes and customers face the chef over the counter so they can enjoy an intimate atmosphere as well as Japanese cuisine. Why don’t you become a Kappo chef for the day at Cooking Sun, and enjoy cooking and eating fine Japanese cuisines in the Machiya studio’s rich atmosphere.

Sake – Meet the authentic sake
Tsuki no Katsura and Shotoku Shuzo, centuries old sake manufacturers from Fushimi, Kyoto
Fushimi, the southern part of Kyoto city where there are many sake manufacturers of more than a few hundred years old and they are so famous in Japan for their premium sake brands.
Tea – Experience authentic Japanese tea
Nishide Seicha, long-established tea manufacturer in Uji, Kyoto
Uji is famous for its production of high quality Japanese tea leaves. The start of Nishide Seicha dates back to 1864. It produces high quality teas of various types (Gyokuro, Sencha, Matcha, Hojicha, etc) in all sorts of packages, and entertain Japanese tea fans home and abroad.
WHAT KIND OF JAPANESE FOOD CAN I EXPERIENCE?
You will experience traditional Japanese home cooking. Japanese cuisines such as sushi and sashimi are so familiar, but Japanese people eat a number of different kinds of Japanese dishes at home and they are of course as delicious as the ones many of you know. Why don’t you discover them while you are visiting Japan!
WHO ARE THE TEACHERS?
Local Japanese who are knowledgeable about foods and are fluent in English are your teachers. They are all experts of Japanese home cooking and are also trained by our master chef Nakai.
I AM VEGETARIAN. CAN I ATTEND THE CLASS?
For our vegetarian customers, please be assured that all of the courses have vegetarian menu options available. Please request upon booking.
I CANNOT EAT GLUTEN
For gluten free customers, wheat ingredients and soy sauce is not used. Please request upon booking.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN ATTEND ONE CLASS?
Maximum 8 people per class.

IS THE COOKING STUDIO WIFI FREE?
Yes! You can take pictures and post them on social media immediately.
The cooking classes boast to be a very hands-on. You will be making 4 – 5 different dishes during a half-day lesson, and you will be kept very busy.
The food is delicious
Japan is home to lots of delicious, beautiful, and healthy foods. Sushi is one of the famous dishes in Japan, however there are many more dishes to entertain your mouth. Discover them here.
The group session are kept to a minimum of 8 people so you can interact with the staff.
Meet local Japanese people
Communication is often a problem for international travelers and that sometimes prevents you from fully enjoying your Japan trip. The staff are fluent in English, knowledgeable about food, Kyoto city & Japan, so be assured that you will have good interaction with staff.
