Kyushu offers many historic treasures, modern cities and natural beauty. Kyushu is also a land of surreal volcanic landscapes and stunning mountains. Kyushu has many places to visit including the largest city Fukuoka, one of the best hot springs of Japan – Beppu Onsen, and the impressive black coloured Kumamoto Castle. Kyushu boasts an abundance of fresh food, with characteristic local dishes unique to each area.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: Fukuoka, Hakata
Day 2: Dazaifu Temmangu – Usuki Stone Buddhas – Beppu Hell Hall – Yufuin
Day 3: Daikanbo – Asosan – Takachiho Gorge – Miyazaki
Day 4: Aoshima – Udojingu – Aya Town – Takachiho – Sakurajima – Kagoshima
Day 5: Tsujunkyo Bridge – Kumamoto Castle – Unganzennji – Suizenji Jojuen
Day 6-7: Shimabara-Unzen – Glover Garden – Dejima, Peace Park, Inasayama Observation

ROUTE 1

DAY 1: FUKUOKA> URESHINO 1.5hrs

Ureshino: This onsen area is close to the popular sites of Saga Prefecture . Start at Okawachiyama Villa ge, a quaint town known for local Arita Porcelain. Enjoy a lunch of local Saga beef and continue to Mifuneyama .

DAY 2: URESHINO > NAGASAKI 1hr

Nagasaki: Visit Dejima, a replica of the island where the Dutch traders lived. Glover Garden is an iconic open air museum and the Peace Memorial Museum is also worth visiting .

DAY 3: NAGASAKI> UNZEN 1hr

Unzen: Walk through the volcanically active landscape known as the “Hells of Unzen” and immerse yourself in the local hot springs at the end of the day.

DAY 4: UNZEN > KUMAMOTO 2.5hrs

Kumamoto : Kumamoto Castle has been undergoing extensive reconstruction due to a devastating earthquake but still remains the most iconic monument in the city.

DAY 5: KUMAMOTO > YUFUIN 2.5hrs

Mount Aso & Daikanbo Peak: An active volcano in the centre of Kyushu Island. Its ancient caldera ranks among the world ‘s largest. Conditions permitting you can drive up to the crater .
Yufuin: Popular hot spring resort surrounded by countryside scenery and mountains, exploring this area by bicycle or rickshaw is recommended .

DAY 6: YUFUIN > BEPPU 1hr

Beppu: The bubbling, steaming, colorful sulfuric hot springs of Beppu make for eerie and somewhat magical photo . Steaming food in these hot springs is also very popular

DAY 7: BEPPU > FUKUOKA 2hrs

Fukuoka: Taste the famous Hakata ramen, one of the most popular and delicious varieties of ramen in Japan .

ROUTE 2

DAY 1: FUKUOKA> BEPPU 2hrs

Beppu: The bubbling, colorful, sulfuric hot springs of Beppu make for eerie and somewhat magical photo. Steaming food in these hot springs
is also very popular and a must try when visiting .

DAY 2: BEPPU >TAKACH IHO 2.5hrs

Takachiho: The beauty of Takachiho Gorge attracts tourists from all over the country. Amano lwato Shrine also entices many to visit as it is one of the most sacred Shinto shrines in Japan.

DAY 3: TAKACHIHO > MIYAZAKI 2.5hrs

Miyazaki: Just below Miyazaki City in Aoshima is a shrine with a peculiar rock formation known as the “Demon’s Was hboard”. Another popular attraction is Udo Shrine, renowned as the birthplace of the first Emperor of Japan.

DAY 4-5: MIYAZAKI> KAGOSHIMA (VIA CAPE TOI) 4hrs

Cape Toi: Not only is the costal scenery of Cape Toi stunning but there is the chance of observing wild horses at the cape.
Kagoshima: Highlights of Kagoshima include visiting the active volcanic island of Sakurajima , the picturesque Senganen garden and
discovering the samurai history of the region.

DAY 6: KAGOSHIMA> IBUSUKI 1.5hrs

lbusuki: Try the unique black sand baths and be submerged in volcanic sand, a therapeutic and cleansing one-of-a-kind experience .

DAY 7: IBUSUKI > FUKUOKA 2 hrs

Fukuoka: Taste the famous Hakata ramen, one of the most popular and delicious varieties of ramen in Japan.
