Please don’t go to JR Nara station, you need to be at Kintetsu Nara Station.
It takes 10 minutes to get to Kintetsu Nara station from JR Nara station.
The closest exit is Exit #2 or East Exist at Kintetsu Nara Station.

What To Expect

Discover the history, culture, and natural beauty of Japan's ancient capital on this Nara half-day walking tour with a knowledgeable local guide. Explore lesser-known areas of Nara while visiting two of its most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Todai-ji Temple and Kasuga Taisha Shrine, and learn about Japan's unique Buddhist and Shinto traditions. Continue through Nara Park, where you can meet and feed the famous sacred deer, believed to have been divine messengers for more than 1,200 years. Combining Nara sightseeing, Japanese history, ancient temples, Shinto culture, and Nara deer, this half-day tour is perfect for first-time visitors and travelers looking for an authentic cultural experience in one of Japan's most historic cities.

After meeting your local guide in front of the statue, it's time to start the Nara historical walking tour!

Upon entering the shopping arcade, our first stop will be the iconic Kofuku-ji Temple, renowned for its stunning five-story pagoda. After capturing some memorable photographs, our journey will lead us to the impressive Todai-ji Temple. As you approach, you'll be greeted by two imposing guardian statues known as Kongo Rikishi. Beyond them lies the grand Great Buddha statue, a sight that never fails to awe visitors. Throughout this experience, our local guide will regale you with captivating tales and fascinating insights into Japanese Buddhism and the significance of these historic temples!

After seeing the Great Buddha statue, we will enjoy viewing Nara on the Nigetsu-do temple!

At the top of Todai-ji temple, there is the Nigetsu-do temple where we can enjoy the great view of Nara. After that, we will visit some traditional souvenir shops and walk toward Kasuga shrine where many wild deer gather!

Walk inside Nara park and interact with cute wild deers

Explore the beautiful red shrine housing hundreds of lanterns! After a nice walk, we will visit a good old restaurant for lunch. After that, we will check a Japanese old town that is extremely different from what we know of metropolitan Tokyo. Walking between the historical buildings, we can go inside a merchant's house and see how the people around here lived.

    • All ages are welcome on this tour. Although we walk with a few short breaks, please let us know in advance if any group members have health concerns.

    • For guests traveling with infants, we strongly recommend using a baby carrier, as some areas on the itinerary can be difficult to access with a stroller. If you prefer to bring a stroller, please understand that there may be certain parts of the tour where participation could be limited.

    • You do not need to cover the guide’s food and drinks. Please bring cash if you would like to purchase additional snacks or drinks.

    • This tour is not recommended for individuals with mobility issues. If you have difficulty walking, we recommend booking a private tour.

    • Please note that we cannot guarantee allergy-free meals or accommodate dietary restrictions, as the food is prepared in kitchens not operated by MagicalTrip. Additionally, some stops may not allow substitutions; however, we will make every effort to offer alternatives at other locations throughout the tour.

    • Japan’s climate has become more extreme, with summer temperatures reaching up to 40°C (110°F) and winter lows dropping to -5°C (20°F). Please prepare accordingly for the tour.

    • Out of respect for other guests and to ensure the best experience for everyone, the tour will start on time.
