Safety Tips for Before & During Your Climb

[Altitude Sickness Warning]

Risk increases above 2,400 m. If you experience headache, nausea, dizziness, or difficulty breathing — descend immediately.

Prevention: Pace yourself (max 200-300 m/hr), hydrate regularly, avoid rapid altitude gain, get enough rest.

[Weather]

  • Check the forecast before you set out
  • Afternoon thunderstorms are common — early morning starts are best
  • Be prepared to turn back in lightning or strong winds

[Pacing]

  • “Slow and steady” is the golden rule
  • Don’t race ahead even if you feel strong
  • Avoid non-stop overnight (“bullet”) climbing

[Hydration & Nutrition]

  • Drink before you feel thirsty
  • Replenish electrolytes with sports drinks or salt candy
  • Snack regularly to keep energy levels up

[Etiquette]

  • Pack out all your rubbish
  • Stay on the designated trail
  • Yield to others in crowded sections
