Safety Tips for Before & During Your Climb
[Altitude Sickness Warning]
Risk increases above 2,400 m. If you experience headache, nausea, dizziness, or difficulty breathing — descend immediately.
Prevention: Pace yourself (max 200-300 m/hr), hydrate regularly, avoid rapid altitude gain, get enough rest.
[Weather]
- Check the forecast before you set out
- Afternoon thunderstorms are common — early morning starts are best
- Be prepared to turn back in lightning or strong winds
[Pacing]
- “Slow and steady” is the golden rule
- Don’t race ahead even if you feel strong
- Avoid non-stop overnight (“bullet”) climbing
[Hydration & Nutrition]
- Drink before you feel thirsty
- Replenish electrolytes with sports drinks or salt candy
- Snack regularly to keep energy levels up
