What To Expect

Experience one of Tokyo's most exclusive cultural activities with special access to a real sumo stable, where you'll witness an authentic sumo morning practice (Keiko) from guaranteed ring-side seats. Accompanied by an expert local guide, you'll learn about the 1,500-year-old history of Japanese sumo, its deep Shinto traditions, and the disciplined lifestyle of professional sumo wrestlers before entering this sacred training ground. Feel the incredible power and intensity of live sumo as you watch the wrestlers train just steps away from the dohyo (sumo ring)—an experience far different from a staged performance. After the practice, enjoy a rare opportunity to take a commemorative group photo with the wrestlers, creating a lasting memory of this unforgettable cultural experience. Perfect for first-time visitors, sports enthusiasts, and anyone interested in authentic Japanese culture, this Tokyo sumo experience offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Japan's national sport that few travelers ever get to enjoy.

Gain Special Access to a Real Sumo Stable

Meet your expert local guide at Kiyosumi Shirakawa Station and get ready to bypass the tourist crowds. Sumo is a sacred, 1500-year-old Shinto tradition, and its true spirit lives behind closed doors. On this exclusive tour, you will gain special access to enter a real sumo stable—a sacred training ground normally strictly inaccessible to the general public. Discover the hidden, rigorous lifestyle these massive athletes lead to forge their mind, body, and spirit!

Feel the Raw Power: Authentic Morning Practice Up Close

Before entering, your guide will teach you the strict etiquette and Shinto traditions needed to deeply appreciate this sacred space. This is not a staged entertainment show; it is a genuine, grueling morning practice (Keiko). Immersed in a strictly silent atmosphere, you will hear the heavy breathing and feel the thunderous clashes of massive wrestlers up close. After the intense practice concludes, you will enjoy an exclusive opportunity to take a rare commemorative group photo with the athletes!

Witness the Action from Reserved Ring-Side Seats

Unlike standard viewing experiences where you might be seated far away or on the floor, this premium tour guarantees you reserved ring-side seats. Positioned right in front of the clay ring (Dohyo), you will have an unobstructed, up-close view of every intense grapple and throw. Not only does this provide the most thrilling perspective, but sitting comfortably in chairs also ensures a relaxing, stress-free experience for anyone who prefers not to sit on traditional floor cushions.

    • This tour is available only to guests aged 12 and over. Guests under 12 years old are not permitted inside the sumo stable. If a guest under 12 is found, we may have to deny participation without a refund.

    • The tour will start promptly, and guests are required to arrive on time. Please note that late arrivals will not be able to join the tour, and no refunds or rescheduling will be provided for missed tours.

    • Please be aware that most sumo stables do not provide chairs, and guests are expected to sit directly on tatami (straw mat flooring). Some locations on the tour may not be accessible by wheelchair or stroller.

    • Guests must strictly follow the rules of each sumo stable. If a guest behaves disruptively or disrespects the stable's regulations, the stable reserves the right to refuse entry or participation without a refund. Please note that only tatami areas are accessible inside the stable; all other areas are off-limits.

    • If necessary, guests are allowed to leave the stable before the end of practice; however, please understand that re-entry will not be permitted once you have exited.

    • Photography during the practice is subject to each sumo stable’s policy. Depending on the day, taking photos of the wrestlers or with the wrestlers may not be allowed.

    • If you wish to visit the same sumo stable as your friends (who booked separately), please indicate this in the “Special Request / Your Note” field at checkout.

    • Please note that we cannot make any changes to the assigned stable on the day of the tour

    • Please understand that sumo stables may cancel or adjust their practice schedule at the last minute based on the wrestlers’ condition or tournament commitments. In case of cancellation by the stable, a full refund will be issued promptly.

    • Please use the restroom before the tour begins, as restroom access may not be available during the practice.

    • Reservation changes or requests made on the day of the tour cannot be accommodated. In some cases, we may request a change to your tour time or date depending on the availability of the sumo stables.
