Travel by coach from Yudanaka to Madarao Mountain Resort, a ski resort nestled amongst the Japanese Alps that makes a great powder skiing destination. Madarao is an undiscovered wealth of tree skiing, back country riding and high snow falls. Stay here for 7 nights at the Madarao Mon Aile Hotel.

Today you have the full day to explore Madarao and all it has to offer. Unlike many other resorts in the area, off-piste Skiing is permitted. Have a lesson, join a back country tour or upgrade your lift pass to include the neighbouring resort, Tangram, for 500JPY ($7 AUD).

Today we head over to Nozawa Onsen for the day. This ski resort and hot spring town is only 40 minutes from Madarao by bus. Spend the day skiing/snowboarding or wander around the traditional Japanese village. Head back to Madarao at the end of the day for a well earned rest.

Another day trip is on the cards today to a nearby ski resort – Myoko Kogen. We’ll travel 40 minutes by bus to Akakura Onsen Village. A real skiers town, Myoko Kogen is made up of a bunch of different resorts. Akakura Kanko and Akakura Onsen can be skied between and offer a great variety of terrain and plenty of snow. The other areas, accessible by local bus are Suginohara and Ikenotaira. Seki Onsen is also accessible from Myoko Kogen by bus or taxi. Head back to Madarao at the end of the day.
