Oirase Gorge
Hidden in the deep pristine forest, the Oirase Gorge presents scenery that is full of life brought forth by the dynamic, crystal clear river. Cradling the gorge are cliffs filled with pumice and volcanic ash deposits preserved at high temperatures, and welded tuff formed by the weight and heat brings out the gorge’s stunning scene. A road and walkway running along the gorge allows visitors to have unique views from the trail and the mountainside. This is one of Tohoku’s must popular sightseeing spots.

Akita Kanto Festival

After dinner, walk from the hotel to the festival seating area. It is said that the festival has its roots from Neburi Nagashi, a ceremony held to prevent illnesses and ill will in summer. Watch in awe as the locals display their skills in balancing two long bamboo poles formed into a cross shape mounted with 24 or 46 lit lanterns, as they parade down the streets to the beat of the drums. This magnificent parade of lights is a powerful, nostalgic scene – it’s truly a sight to behold!
